GIS

What is GIS?
A Geographic Information System or GIS is a computerized system for storing, retrieving, analyzing, and utilizing geographic or spatially related information. A GIS stores 'layers' of data, such as streets, zoning, addresses, etc., which can be combined together to produce information describing the real world. Because the business of local government is inherently related to location or geography, a GIS is the logical information system or database for storing these data.

Mission
GIS in Flagler County performs a supporting role, by providing geographically related information to aid in decision making. Most importantly, GIS supports Emergency Management and E911 functioning, by providing accurate and timely spatial data and maps used by emergency responders in planning, preparing, responding, and recovering from emergencies and disaster events.
