Laura Hite joined Flagler County Emergency Management Division in May 2014 as the Mitigation Planner. Laura came from the Florida Division of Emergency Management where she was the Lead Mitigation Planner for six years. At the Division, she helped coordinate mitigation activities for all of Florida’s counties and state agencies, served as Planning Section Chief on the State Management Team (also known as the State Assistance Team), and helped developed the Division’s internship program. During her time there she played integral part in the revision and update of Florida’s Enhanced State Hazard Mitigation Plan, which has been recognized by FEMA as a national best practice model.
At Flagler County, Laura is mainly responsible for coordinating the update of the County’s Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) plan and securing grants to help reduce vulnerabilities from future hazard occurrences. She also aids in the implementation of the Community Rating System (CRS) program and helps coordinate the work of student interns.
Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University in Geography, a Master’s Certificate in Emergency Management from Florida State University and a Master’s degree from Florida State University in Public Administration. She is also a certified as a Florida Professional Emergency Manager by the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association.
