Bob Pickering, known to many as "BP", came to Flagler County Emergency Management in July 1994 after volunteering for the agency for a number of years. Prior to his employment, Bob volunteered in various communications and support organizations, some of which he helped start back in 1985. He continues to actively volunteer with a number of those organizations today. Before coming to Flagler County, Bob worked at Marineland of Florida in many capacities from 1983 to 1994.
Bob is responsible for the operation and readiness of all Emergency Management communications, warning and technical systems for the department. In addition to performing a vast number of functions in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) he also oversees many of the communications systems including IPAWS, 800Mhz towers, EM Net, Code Red, as well as GMRS and Amateur Radio. Bob also oversees the County's StormReady program and coordinates Skywarn Storm Spotter classes with the National Weather Service.
Bob also assists with Emergency Plan reviews, provides guidance for plan development and is the contact point for mandated reviews of plans for 24 hour care facilities.
Bob has had training at Tropical Prediction Center as well as numerous meteorological and emergency management classes throughout his career. Bob holds a technician plus class amateur license, general mobile radio service license and administers many of the county radio licenses.
Bob is also an avid railway enthusiast, likes to frequent the social scene in Flagler County and also is an active volunteer with REACT, ARES, FECA and Skywarn.
